The Preferred is almost never a good choice long-term, if you spend enough you'd be better with the Reserve, if not you're better off with something free. but the Preferred offers a net $500+ (they ran 80k points for a while a couple months ago) for the first $95 annual fee, and you can change it to any of their other cards after the 1st year. The Reserve has a relatively huge annual fee (but can be a good long-term card if you're a traveler) and usually a lower bonus. ![]() The Sapphire Preferred is a good choice for that too, if you can hit the spending requirement, BTW. the Freedom cards are usually $200 back on $500, so just put $500 of what you'd normally spend on it, you got a free 40% back for a hard pull, and a small temporary credit hit for lowering your average age & newest account.
